What is the
Strings for Kids program?
Strings for Kids
is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help qualified and deserving
students gain an appreciation for music by providing stringed instruments and
lessons at little or no cost to students or their families. The scope of this
mission is to target children between the ages of 5-12 who show desire, musical
potential and/or financial need.
Who is
Eligible?
All students
from Idaho Falls and surrounding areas who are currently in the first through
sixth grade who have a strong desire to play music are eligible for this
program. Eligibility will be based on musical potential, teacher recommendation,
financial need and a personal interview.
How do I
apply?
1.First you need
to either download and print off a copy of the application by clicking (here) or
stop by Sites' Violin Shop/Music School located at 1120 S. Boulevard in Idaho
Falls to pick up an application in person.
2.Once you have
filled out and turned in the application the review board will wait for your
teacher recommendation to arrive. You can download and print off a copy of the
teacher recommendation form by clicking (here) or you can pick up a copy at
Sites'.
3.After all
applications have been received the review board will review the applications
and notify potential participants and schedule a personal interview with the
student and their legal guardian.
4.Students who
have been accepted into the program will next be required to sign a consent form
and lessons will be scheduled and violins will be loaned out.
How can I
help?
Donors can
sponsor a violin package, music stand and music for a contribution of $100.00.
Checks can be made out to Strings for Kids and dropped off in person or mailed
to Sites' Violin Shop/Music School, 1120 S. Boulevard, Idaho Falls, ID 83402.
We are also
looking for donations of used stringed instruments, especially violins and
guitars. These instruments need not be in perfect condition. Our repair man has
graciously agreed to donate all labor to repair any instruments donated to the
program. Currently we are also taking donations of new and used violins, bows,
cases, rosin, tuners, metronomes, stringed instrument especially violin music
(books and sheet music) and shoulder rests.
We appreciate
your willingness to help support our community in this effort.
Applications
taken anytime for students who wish to enroll Fall 2007.
